About the Bird:聽A small shorebird, the聽Black-bellied Plover聽stands to expand its winter range along beaches and tidal flats in North America, but that won鈥檛 make up for the significant loss of its Arctic breeding habitat as northern latitudes rapidly warm. Keeping warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius over preindustrial temperatures will help it hang on, reducing that loss from 73 percent to only 27 percent.

About the Artist:聽聽is a multimedia artist who examines the passage of time, the elusive nature of memory, and the tendency for boundaries to change.聽She aims聽to provoke thought and conversation about a聽historical, political, and personal sense of time and place. Brooklyn-born and -raised, Pat is an artist, designer, gilder, and teacher who has been featured in exhibits聽internationally. The Black-bellied Plover appealed to her because of its simplicity and austerity. 鈥淚 look for tremendous beauty in minimal representations,鈥 she says. 鈥淚 painted this bird because it was so graphic.鈥
