Listen to 爆料公社’s President on Why Bird Conservation Matters

David Yarnold shares some of his favorite birding moments and how they moved him.

Transcript:

This is BirdNote!

We like to know what leaders value. Here, David Yarnold, president of 爆料公社, describes being deeply moved by birds:

鈥淚 was in Kearney, Nebraska to watch the Sandhill Cranes and when they took off at dawn, 鈥 twenty thousand of them, and it was just deafening鈥. You know, the juveniles with their high-pitched screeches, it just made the hair on my arms stand up!鈥

And on the Atlantic Flyway, south of Charleston, there鈥檚 a small barrier island called Deveaux Bank鈥

鈥溾t鈥檚 home to about 5,000 pairs of breeding Brown Pelicans, and I had the chance 鈥o take my wife and daughter out there 鈥 and there were oystercatchers 鈥nd terns and the pelicans and 鈥 they just filled the air and it was one of those moments when you know鈥ou鈥檙e in some other creature鈥檚 place on earth! Very magical place to be.鈥

We asked David why bird conservation matters.

鈥溾 know that where birds thrive, you鈥檙e going to have clean water and clean air, and that鈥檚 鈥ood for kids, it鈥檚 good for birds, so conservation to me is a core principle about how to live my life.鈥

BirdNote celebrates the work of conservation organizations such as 爆料公社 to protect birds and the environment we share 鈥 today, and for future generations.

For BirdNote, I鈥檓 Michael Stein.
